QUETTA: In a troubling incident on Sunday, armed men abducted the Assistant Commissioner of Ziarat district, Muhammad Afzal Baqi, along with his son, and later set their vehicle on fire.
According to Ziarat Deputy Commissioner Zakaullah Durrani, the kidnapping occurred in the Zezri area while Baqi was on a picnic with his family. The assailants intercepted their vehicle at gunpoint, ordered all occupants to disembark, and subsequently torched the vehicle.
While Baqi’s gunman, driver, and other family members were released unharmed, the attackers forcibly took the Assistant Commissioner and his son to an undisclosed location.
Authorities have launched efforts to secure their safe recovery.
This marks the second abduction of a senior government official in the region in recent months. On June 4, armed men abducted Muhammad Hanif Noorzai, the Assistant Commissioner of Tump, while he was traveling with his family.
