The World Bank has approved $194 million for two projects focused on improving education and water access in Balochistan, bringing significant benefits for the province’s residents.
The GRADES-Balochistan project, with a $100 million allocation, aims to enhance education for 250,000 students by increasing school enrollment and improving literacy and numeracy skills for early childhood and primary levels.
Key initiatives include quality early childhood education, climate-resilient classrooms, professional teacher training for 5,000 educators, and scholarships for 400 female students to pursue teacher education. These efforts prioritize nurturing resilience and environmental sustainability, while addressing critical gaps in education access.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Water Security and Productivity Improvement Project (BWSPIP) will focus on water-related challenges with a $94 million investment. By enhancing irrigation, improving water services, and constructing climate-resilient infrastructure, this project is set to benefit 500,000 people. It also aims to protect farming communities from climate risks, while boosting economic stability and empowering women in water management.
Together, these projects align with Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery Framework and the World Bank’s 10-year Country Partnership Framework, advancing goals like poverty reduction, disaster resilience, and sustainable development in Balochistan.
