China-funded desalination plant begins supplying clean water to Gwadar

A China-funded desalination plant with a capacity of 1.2 million gallons per day (MGD) has officially started providing safe drinking water to the residents of Gwadar. This development represents a significant step toward resolving the region’s long-standing water scarcity, according to Gwadar Pro.

The plant became operational through the efforts of Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Chairman Noorul Haq Baloch, who worked alongside Chinese engineers to bring the project to life. The facility is located within the premises of Gwadar Port.

To commemorate the milestone, Chairman Noorul Haq Baloch and Public Health Engineering Department’s Executive Engineer Momin Baloch visited the desalination plant and the Koh-Bun Ward pumping station to evaluate the water distribution system.

Executive Engineer Momin Baloch provided a detailed briefing on the supply network, confirming that 50,000 gallons will now be delivered daily from Gwadar Port to the Koh-Bun pumping station. This ensures a dependable supply of clean drinking water to the old city and nearby settlements around the port area.
