High-level US and Iranian delegations arrive in Islamabad for crucial negotiations

Islamabad has emerged as a focal point of global diplomacy as high-level delegations from the United States and Iran arrive in Pakistan for crucial negotiations.

A senior US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance reached Islamabad to participate in the talks. According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the delegation includes US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior advisor Jared Kushner.

The delegation was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Iranian Delegation Arrives in Islamabad

Meanwhile, a 71-member Iranian delegation has also arrived in Islamabad for the negotiations. According to reports cited by Al Jazeera and Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the delegation includes negotiators, expert advisors, media representatives, as well as diplomatic and security officials.

The Iranian delegation is being led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Other key members include Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, Secretary of the Supreme National Defense Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei.

Iran Signals Conditional Willingness for Agreement

Speaking ahead of the talks, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Iran is willing to reach an agreement if the United States recognizes its rights.

“If the United States presents a genuine deal, we are ready to reach an agreement,” he said, while noting that past negotiations were affected by unfulfilled commitments.

He added that Iran has entered the talks with cautious optimism, hoping for a constructive outcome.

Pakistan in Global Spotlight

The simultaneous arrival of US and Iranian delegations highlights Pakistan’s growing importance as a neutral venue for high-level diplomacy.

The Islamabad talks are being closely watched worldwide, as they carry significant implications for regional stability and future US-Iran relations.
