Pakistan’s capital is set to become the center of global attention as high-stakes peace talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place in Islamabad.
According to diplomatic sources, the negotiations are expected to begin today with initial discussions at the delegation level, while the most critical phase of the talks is likely to take place on Saturday. The dialogue is already being described by international observers as a potential first step toward what some are calling a possible “Islamabad Accord.”
The US delegation is expected to be led by JD Vance, alongside Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. On the Iranian side, the delegation is expected to be headed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Sources further indicate that representatives from China, Russia, and several Gulf countries may also attend as observers, underlining the global importance of the expected negotiations.
Security in Islamabad has been placed on high alert, particularly around potential venues such as the Foreign Office and selected private hotels. Meanwhile, hundreds of international journalists and media organizations have either arrived or are en route to cover the anticipated talks.
Pakistan is once again positioning itself as a key diplomatic facilitator, hosting a dialogue between two long-standing adversaries. Analysts believe that if successful, these scheduled talks could have far-reaching implications for regional stability and global peace.
The development comes amid heightened tensions, with Donald Trump recently warning that failure to reach a “real agreement” could result in severe consequences. He reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons and stressed the strategic importance of securing the Strait of Hormuz.
Observers note that while the talks have yet to begin, their outcome could play a pivotal role in shaping future US-Iran relations and broader geopolitical dynamics.
