The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, describing the violence as “heinous and cowardly” and reaffirming global resolve to combat terrorism in all forms.
In an official press statement issued by Council President James Kariuki of the United Kingdom, members denounced the coordinated attacks that struck multiple locations across Pakistan on January 31.
According to the statement, the attacks claimed the lives of 48 Pakistani nationals, including 31 civilians. Among the civilian victims were five women and three children, highlighting the devastating human toll of the violence. The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army has claimed responsibility.
Condolences and Solidarity with Pakistan
Security Council members expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and extended support to the Government and people of Pakistan. They also wished a swift and full recovery to those injured in the attacks.
The Council reiterated that terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, remains one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
Call for Accountability
The statement emphasized the urgent need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of the attacks accountable. Council members urged all countries to cooperate actively with Pakistan in line with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
They stressed that acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of motive, location, or perpetrator, and called on all states to combat terrorism in accordance with the UN Charter and international legal frameworks, including human rights, refugee, and humanitarian law.
Global Message Against Terrorism
The press statement reflects continued international backing for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and reinforces the Security Council’s position that no cause can justify the targeting of civilians.
The development comes amid heightened security operations in Balochistan following a surge in militant violence aimed at destabilizing the region.
