Pakistan Railways (PR) has temporarily suspended all passenger and freight train services between Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan after a terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express.
PR CEO Amir Ali Baloch stated that operations will remain halted until security and law enforcement agencies confirm the area is secure and the law and order situation improves. “We’re in constant communication with security agencies but cannot disclose operational details at this time. The safety of passengers, crew, and staff is our top priority,” said Mr. Baloch.
Additionally, PR has arranged a special train to transport security personnel from Sibi to the attack site, as requested by the authorities.
The Jaffar Express, which departed Lahore at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, will terminate at Sukkur/Rohri instead of proceeding to Quetta due to the unstable security conditions.
Lahore Deputy Station Manager Muhammad Asif shared that two trains—the Shah Hussain Express and Pak Business Train—were canceled due to low reservations. Passengers with reservations were accommodated on alternate trains, including the Karakoram and Karachi Express.
Pakistan Railway will closely monitor the situation and resume services to Balochistan once they deem the region safe.
