Islamabad: After the United States officially labeled the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its suicide wing, the Majeed Brigade, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) on August 11, 2025, Pakistan is preparing to take further diplomatic steps to isolate these groups worldwide.
A senior diplomatic official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Pakistan will urge countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, the European Union, and Gulf states to follow the US example and also declare the BLA and Majeed Brigade as terrorist organizations.
“Pakistan is working through diplomatic channels to share detailed evidence of the BLA’s violent attacks, their funding sources, and their dangerous use of female suicide bombers,” the official said.
One of Pakistan’s main goals is to get the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to add the BLA and Majeed Brigade to its list of sanctioned terrorist groups. This would mean a global freeze on their assets, a travel bans on their members, and an arms embargo.
“We will engage with UNSC members in the coming weeks,” the official added. “The evidence is clear, and the threat is urgent.”

Pakistan also stresses that stability in Balochistan is important not only for the country’s security but also for regional peace and economic projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has been targeted by these groups.
The FTO designation allows Pakistan to tighten controls on financial networks and organizations suspected of supporting the BLA, including some NGOs and diaspora groups. Authorities plan to freeze assets and take legal action where possible.
Intelligence sharing between Pakistan and its international partners is expected to increase, targeting the group’s funding and communications abroad.
The senior diplomatic official said the US designation is a major step but “only the beginning.” Pakistan aims for the complete isolation and dismantling of the BLA and Majeed Brigade, ensuring they have no space to operate, whether physically or ideologically.
With global focus on cross-border terrorism, Pakistan’s efforts will test how legal actions can be turned into lasting security results.
