SURAB, Balochistan: A premature explosion involving an under-preparation Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) exposed a terrorist network in Surab district on Wednesday, resulting in the elimination of 18 terrorists affiliated with Fitna Al Hindustan, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The incident occurred on the morning of 12 August 2026, when the VBIED detonated while terrorists were preparing it. The premature detonation killed eight terrorists and injured several others.
The blast also triggered a secondary detonation involving other explosives stored at the location. According to ISPR, the incident tragically resulted in the deaths of three nearby civilians.
Security Forces Hunt Down Fleeing Terrorists
Following the explosion, security forces and Balochistan Police immediately reached the site and launched a joint clearance operation to identify and pursue the perpetrators and their facilitators.
During the operation, security forces detected terrorists attempting to flee the area and engaged them. Ten additional terrorists were eliminated, bringing the total number of terrorists killed in the incident and subsequent operation to 18.
Two Pakistan Army soldiers also sustained injuries during the intense exchange of fire.
Sanitization operations are continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorist threat and prevent the network from regrouping.
Another Blow to Foreign-Sponsored Terrorism
The Surab operation highlights the continuing efforts of Pakistan’s security forces and law-enforcement agencies to disrupt terrorist infrastructure before planned attacks can be executed.
The operation is being conducted under the broader counter-terrorism campaign of Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.
Security forces and law-enforcement agencies remain engaged in sustained operations against foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism, with the objective of dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across Balochistan and the country.
