A suicide blast occurred near the main gate of the G-11 Islamabad courthouse on Tuesday, killing 12 people and injuring 20 others, police confirmed. The attacker, identified as an Afghan national, detonated explosives near a police vehicle after failing to enter the courthouse.
Police said the remains of the suicide bomber, including his head and other body parts, were recovered from the blast site. A forensic team has been deployed to investigate the explosion.
“The attacker attempted to enter the courthouse but, failing to do so, detonated explosives near a police vehicle,” Islamabad Police said.
Emergency Response:
Rescue services, including Rescue 1122, ambulances, and police units, transferred the injured to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, where critical victims are receiving treatment. A heavy police contingent, along with the Islamabad IGP and Chief Commissioner, reached the hospital and the blast site to coordinate rescue and security operations.
The explosion reportedly occurred in a parked car on the service road near the courthouse gate. Several cars and motorbikes were destroyed, and the Judicial Complex has been evacuated. Security has been tightened in the surrounding area.
Two Major Terror Attacks in 24 Hours
The Islamabad blast comes less than 24 hours after a terrorist attack on Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan, where three soldiers were martyred. Both attacks are believed to have been orchestrated by the Indian-sponsored and Afghan Taliban proxy group Fitna al-Khawarij, according to security sources.
The Wana Cadet College attack involved an explosives-laden vehicle that destroyed the main gate, damaged nearby buildings, and caused widespread panic. Security forces neutralized three terrorists, and all students were reported safe.
Officials have raised concerns about a coordinated attempt to destabilize Pakistan, alleging involvement of foreign-backed terror networks.
“These attacks underscore the ongoing threat of Indian-sponsored terror groups operating through Afghan proxies. Pakistan will take all necessary measures to ensure national security,” a military spokesperson said.
Investigation and clearance operations continue at both sites. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
