Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reiterated his government’s commitment to addressing the province’s electricity challenges through alternative energy solutions.
Speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate home solar systems provided by the Chinese government under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), CM Bugti highlighted the initiative. He described it as a major milestone for Balochistan. He noted that the solar systems, which had been sitting unused in warehouses for months, were now being distributed transparently and installed at a lower cost. While Rs350-400 million were initially allocated for the project, efficient planning reduced costs significantly. The final expenses came down to just Rs120-130 million, resulting in substantial savings.

Recognizing Gwadar’s pivotal role as the “heart of CPEC,” CM Bugti instructed authorities to provide at least 5,000 households in the area with home solar systems. He stressed that the people of Gwadar, whose sacrifices were instrumental in realizing CPEC, must directly benefit from its initiatives.
He announced plans to integrate off-grid power stations into the provincial development budget to provide electricity to hard-to-reach areas. Pilot projects will first launch in Nokundi, Buleda, Sui, Sherani, and Mashkel, with a vision to expand to other districts in the future.
Addressing the inefficiency of the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco), CM Bugti criticized its poor management, high line losses, and corruption. These issues have created hardships for the public. He revealed that the Balochistan government is working with the federal government on a major project. The Rs50 billion initiative aims to shift agricultural tube wells to solar energy. However, delays caused by Qesco’s inefficiency have frustrated progress in certain areas.
CM Bugti warned that if Qesco fails to act swiftly, the provincial government will take independent action. This will ensure the completion of solar installations for farmers eager to transition away from traditional systems.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to public-focused energy initiatives, the chief minister announced new plans. These projects aim to improve access to electricity across the province. He also instructed departments to ensure the fair and transparent distribution of solar systems.
Additionally, CM Bugti acknowledged the efforts of Friends of China Forum Chairman Bayazid Khan Kasi. He praised his role in fostering stronger ties between the governments of China and Balochistan.
