Sindh police seek Balochistan's help to arrest Shahzain Mari

Karachi’s South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza has made a request to the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP). The request is to coordinate with Balochistan authorities for the arrest of Shahzain Marri.

Shahzain Marri is the prime suspect in a violent assault at Boat Basin. An FIR has been registered at the Boat Basin Police Station under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) regarding the incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 19, 2025.

The complainant, Barkat Ali Soomro, reported that he and his friend, Wagas Ahmed, were attacked around 3 a.m. after taking a U-turn near a private bank. A four-wheel vehicle approached their car. It recklessly reversed into it. Five to six intoxicated armed assailants exited the vehicle. They assaulted the two with pistol butts. The attackers also issued threats before fleeing the scene.

The assailants were later identified as security guards employed by Shahzain Marri, a resident of District Kohlu, Balochistan. While five guards have been arrested, another suspect, Ghulam Qadir, remains at large. Authorities have, however, traced Qadir’s location and contact details to Balochistan.

DIG Raza’s letter emphasized the urgency of the matter, which gained public attention after CCTV footage surfaced showing Shahzain Marri and his guards physically assaulting the victims. The footage also captured their vehicle hitting another car before the suspects emerged with weapons and launched their attack.

DIG Raza has urged the Sindh IGP to take action. He has asked to refer the matter to the Balochistan IGP. The relevant district police officer (DPO) should also be involved. This is to ensure the swift arrest of Shahzain Marri and Ghulam Qadir.
