Balochistan Senate by-election: Only one candidate submits papers
Senate of Pakistan

In the upcoming Senate by-election for a vacant seat from Balochistan, only one candidate, Asad Qasim Ronjho, has submitted his nomination papers. His candidacy has been proposed and seconded by members of the ruling coalition.

According to the Election Commission, Asad Qasim Ronjho, the son of the resigned BNP Senator Qasim Ronjho, has officially filed his nomination papers for the general seat left vacant in the Senate. His candidacy was proposed by BAP’s Prince Agha Ahmed Umar Ahmadzai and seconded by PML-N’s Wali Muhammad Noorzai.

No other candidate has submitted nomination papers for the by-election scheduled for March 8. If Asad Qasim’s nomination papers are deemed valid, he will be elected unopposed.

The seat became vacant after BNP-M chief Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal demanded the resignation of Senator Qasim Ronjho. This followed his vote in favor of the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Consequently, Qasim Ronjho resigned from the Senate on October 23, 2024.

It is worth noting that Qasim Ronjho, a prominent political figure, was elected as a BNP Senator during the March 2021 Senate elections. His election marked an important milestone for the BNP, as it further strengthened the party’s representation in the Senate. It also highlighted its continued influence in the political landscape.
