In a strongly worded statement issued today, the United Nations Security Council condemned the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express Passenger Train in Pakistan, which tragically claimed the lives of at least 25 people.

The attack, which occurred on March 11, 2025, near the city of Sibi in the Balochistan province, targeted a train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that it was carried out by their Majeed Brigade. The attackers also took several passengers as hostages.

The statement, released by the Security Council President Christina Markus Lassen of Denmark, expressed the Council’s outrage over what it described as a “heinous and cowardly” act of terrorism. “The Security Council condemns in the strongest terms the reprehensible act of terrorism that resulted in the grievous loss of life,” the statement read.
The Council extended its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and the Government and people of Pakistan. “We wish a speedy and full recovery to those injured in the attack,” said the statement.

The Security Council emphasized that terrorism, in all its forms, poses one of the most serious threats to international peace and security. Members reaffirmed the importance of holding the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these attacks accountable, urging all nations to cooperate with Pakistan in bringing the criminals to justice.

The Council reiterated that terrorism is unjustifiable, regardless of its motivations, and called for a unified international effort to combat terrorism by all means necessary. This includes full adherence to international law, human rights law, and humanitarian law in the fight against terrorism.

The attack on the Jaffar Express is the latest in a series of terrorist actions in Balochistan, by Baloch Liberation Army, a globally designated terrorist group.

The United Nations and its member states continue to stand in solidarity with Pakistan as it confronts the challenges posed by terrorism.
