A joint condemnation resolution was tabled in the Balochistan Assembly during its ongoing session against remarks made by Provincial Minister Sadiq Umrani in a previous sitting, with lawmakers also demanding that the controversial statements be expunged from the official record.
The resolution was moved by Provincial Minister Mir Ali Madad Jattak, who criticized Umrani’s claim that 235 people from Balochistan invited to Islamabad had been humiliated during an official engagement.
Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Jattak said the participants from Balochistan were treated with dignity and respect throughout the event. He noted that the Field Marshal personally invited the delegation, sat among them, listened to their concerns, and answered their questions in detail.
Jattak argued that Umrani’s remarks had hurt the sentiments of the people of Balochistan and misrepresented the reality of the Islamabad gathering. He further stated that some individuals make such allegations to divert attention from their own failures and shortcomings.
Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove also supported the resolution, describing Umrani’s statements as misleading. He said the comments had undermined the dignity of those who participated in the Islamabad delegation.
“The Field Marshal listened to our concerns with respect and responded to our questions in a dignified manner,” Langove told the Assembly, adding that the delegation was given due recognition and a respectful platform to express its views.
Assembly member Asfandyar Kakar echoed similar concerns, stating that Umrani had relied on hearsay and made baseless allegations. According to Kakar, the participants were treated with courtesy and respect, and there was no incident that could justify the claims made in the Assembly.
Several lawmakers called for Umrani’s remarks to be removed from the Assembly proceedings, arguing that the statements had damaged the reputation of the delegation and caused unnecessary controversy.
The Assembly continues to deliberate on the resolution, with government members maintaining that the measure is necessary to safeguard the dignity of Balochistan’s people and uphold the decorum of the House.
