Afghan repatriation begins in Chaman following deadline

Afghan refugees in Balochistan’s Chaman district have begun their repatriation through the Pak-Afghan border, according to local officials. Holding camps have been set up to facilitate the process, which comes after the government’s March 31 deadline for Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders to voluntarily leave Pakistan.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chaman, Habib Ahmad Bangulzai, confirmed that the repatriation process started on April 2, with the district administration making arrangements ahead of Eidul Fitr.

A database camp at the Bab Dosti border crossing was established for processing Afghan families, including biometric verification by Nadra (National Database & Registration Authority). These families are being housed at temporary camps and provided accommodation and food during the process.

Bangulzai reported that over 3,500 Afghan families are registered in Chaman, with two families already returning voluntarily. Others have been moved to holding camps, with their data being processed before they are sent back across the border. The DC also confirmed that Chaman serves as the central hub for Afghan families arriving from other districts, reinforcing its role as the key gateway for Pak-Afghan movements.
