A nursing student from Quetta has sparked outrage and confusion after her family claimed she was “missing,” while authorities insist she has been legally detained.
Khadija binte Pir Jan, a student residing at the BMC Girls Nursing Hostel, was reportedly taken away under unclear circumstances, prompting her family to appeal for public support and intervention from human rights organizations.
The situation intensified when Dr. Naseem Kakar, Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) at Bolan Medical College Hospital, ordered the closure of the hospital in protest. He warned that if the student is not produced within 24 hours, other hospitals across the city could also be shut down.
Government Rejects ‘Missing’ Claims
However, the Government of Balochistan has strongly denied allegations of enforced disappearance.
Babar Yousafzai, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Interior, stated that Khadija was taken into custody after “clear evidence” emerged of her alleged facilitation and support to terrorist elements.
According to officials, she has been moved to an internment and detention center under legal orders issued by the provincial government. Authorities say her family has been informed in line with legal procedures.
Officials maintain that the entire process was conducted under established laws and standard operating procedures (SOPs), urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information.
Balochistan’s universities and college hostels recently have come under scrutiny, after multiple arrests of terrorists facilitators in the recent past. On August 2025, Dr. Usman Qazi, an Assistant Professor at BUITEMS (Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences) in Quetta, confessed in a video statement to being affiliated with a banned organization and facilitating suicide bomb plots. He admitted to treason and involvement in terror activities.
Former DC Quetta Saad bin Asad told Balochistan Pulse that BMC hostel and some other universities hostels were searched in the past, as some elements were found that were associated with the banned BLA.
