Armed men stormed a bank in the Hazar Ganji area on the outskirts of Quetta and escaped with Rs 9.4 million, injuring a security guard who tried to stop them, police said.
According to law enforcement officials, several armed suspects entered the bank, held staff at gunpoint, and collected cash before fleeing the scene. During the robbery, a security guard attempted to resist but was violently assaulted and sustained serious injuries.
The injured guard was shifted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.
Soon after the incident, police and other security personnel reached the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation to track down the fleeing suspects. Authorities said checkpoints have been set up in surrounding areas, and CCTV footage from the bank and nearby locations is being examined as part of the investigation.
The incident adds to a growing trend of bank-related crimes in Balochistan over recent months. Earlier, in Panjgur, robbers looted approximately Rs 150 million from three banks in a high-profile heist reportedly linked to a banned militant outfit.
In a separate recent incident in Kharan, armed militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attempted to loot an ATM of a private bank, raising further concerns over bank security in the province.
