Parents' statement in Balochistan honour killing case condemned by PUC

The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) has strongly condemned the recent statement given by the parents of a woman murdered in Balochistan, declaring it to be against the teachings of the Quran, Sunnah, and Pakistan’s Constitution.

In an official statement, the council said the parents’ comments suggested they had approved or consented to the brutal killing of their daughter. “Such consent in an act of cold-blooded murder is not only shameful but also worthy of the highest condemnation,” the statement read.

The PUC emphasized that it is the responsibility of the government and law enforcement agencies to arrest the killers and all those who facilitated the crime. It further urged the state to ensure that justice is served without any exceptions, even if those involved are close family members.

The statement added: “Any statement that justifies murder, especially from parents, must be rejected outright as it goes directly against the core principles of Islam and the law of the land. Punishment must be equal for all, regardless of personal relationships.”

This joint declaration was issued by senior religious scholars including Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Maulana Hafiz Maqbool Ahmed, Allama Tahir-ul-Hassan, Maulana Shafi Qasmi, Maulana Asadullah Farooq, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Ashfaq Pitafi, Maulana Aslam Siddiqui, Maulana Aziz Akbar Qasmi, and Maulana Mubashar Rahimi.

The honour killing case surfaced earlier in June but gained attention after a video went viral on social media. Following the footage, authorities began identifying the victims and suspects.

The Balochistan government has vowed to ensure that all those involved in the double murder are held accountable. A court-ordered exhumation and post-mortem revealed that the woman was shot seven times, while the man received nine bullets.
