Govt announces expansion of public bus services in Balochistan

The government of Balochistan is set to enhance public transportation across the province, focusing on addressing accessibility and passenger needs. According to Hayat Khan Kakar, the Provincial Secretary for Transport, the initiative will expand bus services to multiple towns and cities, including the provincial capital, Quetta.

A total of 21 new buses are being introduced, with four pink buses specifically designed for female passengers, and are expected to start operating by June. The procurement process is already complete, and tenders have been issued. Delivery of the buses is scheduled to begin next month.

Initially, Quetta will see the addition of 12 new green buses to its existing fleet. These buses will operate on new routes to improve transport services in underserved areas of the city. Meanwhile, four green buses will begin operating in Turbat, the divisional headquarters of the Makran division. The pink buses dedicated to female passengers will launch in Quetta.

The government also plans to eventually expand the services to areas like Kolchak and Dasht, further connecting communities. Currently, eight buses are operating on the Sariab to IT University route in Quetta, and the new buses aim to significantly enhance the coverage and efficiency of public transport within the province.
