Balochistan has achieved a significant milestone for the first time by utilizing 90% of its Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) budget for the 2024-25 financial year. This marks a substantial improvement from previous governments, which historically managed to use only 50-60% of their development budgets, leaving significant portions unspent.
Government spokesperson Shahid Rind revealed during a press conference in Quetta on Saturday that the remaining 10% of the development budget would be allocated before the financial year concludes. This move aims to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects.
The funds have been directed toward critical sectors, including education, healthcare, public health engineering, fisheries, agriculture, and energy. By focusing on these areas, the government under Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugtiās leadership has efficiently utilized Rs200 billion allocated for the PSDP to achieve targeted development goals.
Mr. Rind emphasized that the provincial assembly has the constitutional authority to legislate and addressed concerns regarding the Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill. He also highlighted that parties currently criticizing the bill were part of the assembly when it was passed but failed to address pressing issues such as missing persons during their tenure.
