Federal govt grants Rs. 8 million to support prisoners in Balochistan

The federal government has allocated Rs. 8 million for convicted prisoners in Balochistan under the categories of Arsh, Diyat, and Daman. This fund will facilitate the release of prisoners who have served their sentences but remain incarcerated due to financial incapacity.

The Additional Chief Secretary Home Affairs, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, received the cheque issued by the federal government through the Director of Human Rights. This initiative is a collaborative effort by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Federal Minister for Human Rights, Law, and Justice Senator Azam Nazir Tarar.

According to the Additional Chief Secretary, this initiative not only strengthens the judicial justice system but also offers hope to prisoners and their families. The Government of Balochistan will ensure transparent distribution of the funds to deserving inmates, enabling them to meet their legal obligations and reintegrate into society with dignity.

Additionally, oath-taking ceremonies were held for top judges across different provinces. Justice Rozi Khan Barrech was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court by Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail in a ceremony at the Governor House. The event was attended by high-profile individuals, including Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, senior lawyers, and former governor Justice Amanullah Yasinzai. Justice Barrech emphasized the importance of judicial collaboration and addressing public grievances in his role.

Similar ceremonies occurred in other provinces, with Justice Syed Muhammad Attique Shah assuming the role of Peshawar High Court Chief Justice, Justice Junaid Ghaffar as Sindh High Court Chief Justice, and Justice Sarfraz Dogar as Islamabad High Court Chief Justice. Each pledged to uphold constitutional principles and focus on resolving jurisdictional and public concerns. Justice Dogar, following a Supreme Court decision, was elevated as Chief Justice and took his oath in a ceremony attended by top officials and legal fraternity members.
