Over 2.6 million children in Balochistan to receive polio drops

Over 2.6 million children under five years of age are set to receive polio drops during a week-long vaccination campaign starting in Balochistan from today.

According to the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Coordinator, Mr. Inam-ul-Haq, preparations for the campaign have been finalized. The effort will deploy over 11,000 teams, including 9,128 mobile teams, 920 stationed at fixed points, and 586 at transit points to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Mr. Haq highlighted the urgency of the initiative, explaining that the poliovirus remains present in the environment and continues to pose a serious threat to children’s health. He urged parents to vaccinate their young ones, not only with polio drops but also with routine immunizations to protect against diseases like measles and pneumonia.

“If children are not vaccinated, the poliovirus could lead to lifelong paralysis,” warned Mr. Haq, appealing to families to prioritize their children’s health.

He also called on civil society, teachers, and religious leaders to support the campaign by spreading awareness and encouraging participation. Furthermore, Mr. Haq assured that adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of all teams participating in the vaccination drive.
