The Balochistan government is stepping up its public transport initiative with the introduction of its first Pink Bus Service, designed exclusively for female passengers. According to the Secretary of Public Transport, Mr. Hayat Khan Kakar, the plan includes the addition of 21 new buses to the public transport fleet, with 4 dedicated pink buses for women.
The new buses will serve Quetta and Turbat, with 12 additional green buses operating across new routes to expand coverage within the provincial capital. These services aim to improve accessibility and convenience for residents. The pink buses, in particular, mark a significant step toward creating safer and more inclusive transport solutions for women in the region.
Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat while exclusively talking with Balochistan pulse, has announced that four pink buses will soon be operational in Quetta, dedicated to women travelers. This initiative aims to provide safer and more comfortable transportation options for women in the city.
Additionally, out of a fleet of 21 green buses, 13 will serve Quetta while four will operate in Turbat, ensuring enhanced connectivity in both regions. The pink bus project has already delivered significant improvements in travel facilities for women, Commissioner Shafqaat noted.
The green bus service, on the other hand, is playing a critical role in addressing the issue of illegal rickshaws in the city. Currently, eight green buses are running in Quetta, with plans to expand the fleet and introduce new buses in both Quetta and Turbat soon.
To further improve public transport, the number of buses in Quetta will increase, and their routes will be expanded. One new route, stretching approximately 38 kilometers, will connect the Assistant Commissioner’s office in Kuchlak to Mian Ghundi in Sariab, facilitating easier travel across the city.
These developments are part of a broader effort to modernize urban transport and provide residents with efficient, reliable, and accessible travel options.
