PDMA warns of heavy downpours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a high alert, warning of a fresh spell of intense monsoon rains expected to hit the province from August 22 to August 26.

The forecasted heavy downpours may lead to a sharp rise in water levels in local streams, rivers, and drainage channels, increasing the risk of flooding, urban flash floods, and landslides in mountainous areas. Authorities have also warned that weakened infrastructure, including buildings, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels, could be vulnerable to damage from strong winds and rain.

Meanwhile, PDMA Punjab has also forecast a similar weather pattern, with heavy rainfall expected from August 23 to August 27. The authority has issued flood alerts for the upper river catchment areas, anticipating increased runoff and rising river levels.

Meteorological reports indicate that western winds are likely to enter higher elevations on the night of August 22, bringing widespread rain across several regions.

Areas expected to receive significant rainfall include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujrat, with possible showers in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad.

Today, widespread rain is expected across major cities in Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, and Sargodha. Parts of Sindh, such as Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tando Allahyar, and Tando Muhammad Khan, are also likely to experience rainfall.

In contrast, most districts of Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid, with little to no rainfall predicted in the immediate forecast.

Authorities urge residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert, follow official advisories, and take precautionary measures to ensure safety.
