PBF Balochistan proposed molten salt solar plants to tackle power shortage

The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) Balochistan has proposed the development of molten salt solar power plants as a solution to the ongoing power crisis in Balochistan.

On Monday, PBF Balochistan Secretary General Maqbool Alam Noori stressed the urgent need for alternative energy solutions during a discussion with the Chaman Chamber of Commerce (CCCI). He highlighted the severe impact of power outages on both industries and households across the province. “The persistent power shortages are crippling industries, slowing economic progress, and causing unnecessary hardship for citizens,” Noori emphasized.

To address this, Noori proposed an innovative approach by leveraging Balochistan’s abundant sunshine. “With more than seven hours of sunlight per day, Balochistan is ideally suited for solar power. By investing in molten salt solar power plants, the province can achieve round-the-clock power generation,” he explained. This cutting-edge technology uses molten salt as both a heat transfer fluid and a thermal energy storage medium, enabling electricity production and heat storage for later use.

Noori also underlined the positive economic and social impact of such a project. “Implementing this technology will provide a stable energy supply to industries, driving investment and creating jobs. It will also ensure reliable power for households, improving quality of life for residents,” he added.

The PBF strongly believes that adopting a long-term, sustainable energy solution is essential for Balochistan’s economic development and prosperity. Noori urged the provincial government to prioritize this forward-looking energy strategy and to explore public-private partnerships to expedite its implementation.
