Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, presented the prestigious ‘Patriotic War Medal’ to Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev. The award recognizes Field Marshal Munir’s contributions to strengthening bilateral military cooperation, according to the military’s media wing on Wednesday.
The meeting between Colonel General Valiyev and Field Marshal Munir took place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where they discussed matters of mutual interest, emphasizing the global and regional security environment. During the discussions, COAS Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations. He also congratulated the visiting dignitary on Azerbaijan’s successful peace agreement with Armenia, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Colonel General Valiyev commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism and achievements during Marka-e-Haq, the conflict with India spanning from the April 22 Pahalgam attack to the conclusion of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos on May 10. The Azerbaijani delegation extended their best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day and its victory celebrations.
Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan’s leadership and people for their unwavering support during Marka-e-Haq and appreciated the participation of an Azeri contingent in Pakistan’s Independence Day ceremony. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing defence cooperation and promoting joint efforts for regional peace and stability, the ISPR statement concluded.
