Balochistan has announced the deployment of Frontier Corps (FC) personnel to bolster the security of the Pat Feeder Canal project in Dera Bugti, while also ramping up anti-smuggling operations across the province.
During a meeting of the provincial Apex Committee held on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Corps Commander Lt Gen Rahat Nasim Khan, several critical decisions were made to address the law and order situation and drive development in the region.
The meeting resolved to take firm action against illegal activities, such as smuggling, illegal remittances, and extortion, with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) assigned to target unauthorized money transfers and counter anti-state propaganda on digital platforms. Transport companies involved in smuggling will face strict penalties, and cases will be registered against offending drivers.
Protests blocking roads or highways will no longer be tolerated, as Chief Minister Bugti emphasized that the Constitution prioritizes safeguarding the lives of individuals, such as those in ambulances. Authorities were also directed to finalize rules under the Anti-Terrorism Act promptly and strengthen counter-terrorism responses.
On the development front, the committee approved plans to expand the Bolan route along the National Highway and to construct the Dera Murad Jamali Bypass. The National Highway Authority (NHA) has been tasked with completing the Quetta Western Bypass by December 25. The provincial government has allocated Rs1.7 billion for road expansion and indicated it will take over projects delayed by the NHA to ensure public interest is served effectively.
The Apex Committee further announced a ban on liquefied petroleum tankers entering residential areas to enhance public safety. Celebrations for Independence Day and ‘Marka-i-Haq’ will be conducted with patriotic zeal, underscoring the government’s commitment to national pride amidst ongoing challenges.
Chief Minister Bugti reiterated that strict consequences await those acting against the state, reaffirming the government’s stance on maintaining security and fostering development.
