Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti on Sunday visited Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi to inquire about the health of Dr Mahnoor Nisar, the female doctor who was critically injured in an acid attack at Civil Hospital Quetta.
During the visit, the chief minister met Dr Mahnoor and her father, expressing solidarity with the family and assuring them that the Government of Balochistan would provide every possible support until her complete recovery.
Praying for her speedy recovery, CM Bugti told the injured doctor, “You are a brave daughter of Balochistan. You are not alone; Pakistan stands with you.”
The chief minister reiterated that the protection of women remains a top priority of the government and vowed that such incidents would not be tolerated.
“The safety of every daughter is the foremost responsibility of the government,” he said.
Acid Attack Shocked Quetta
Dr Mahnoor Nisar suffered serious burn injuries on Saturday after an employee of Civil Hospital Quetta allegedly threw acid on her inside the hospital premises.
According to police, she sustained burns to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body. Following initial treatment in Quetta, she was shifted to Karachi for specialized medical care at AKUH.
Hospital sources said her condition is stable. Doctors have diagnosed bilateral corneal opacities, but her vision remains preserved. Plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists are closely monitoring her condition, while further medical assessments continue.
The suspect allegedly involved in the attack was later killed in an encounter with law enforcement agencies after he was traced while attempting to flee the area by bus.
Referring to the incident, CM Bugti said the accused had reached his logical end and would no longer pose a threat.
Hero Hospital Employee Honoured
The attack also highlighted the bravery of Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, a Civil Hospital employee who rushed to assist Dr Mahnoor moments after the attack.
CCTV footage showed Tarakai coming to the doctor’s aid and covering her with his jacket as she ran out seeking help.
Recognizing his courage and humanity, Chief Minister Bugti has announced that a civil award will be conferred upon Tarakai for his extraordinary actions during the emergency.
The hospital employee also suffered burn injuries while helping the doctor and was later discharged after receiving treatment.
The incident has drawn nationwide condemnation, with political leaders and civil society members calling for stronger protections for women and healthcare professionals. MNA Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari has also requested President Asif Ali Zardari to confer a high civilian award on Tarakai, describing his actions as an inspiring example of selfless bravery and humanity.
CM Bugti assured Dr Mahnoor’s family that the provincial government would remain by their side and ensure all necessary medical and financial assistance until her full recovery.
