Pakistan has formally accepted an invitation to join the Board of Peace (BoP), a proposed international framework aimed at achieving lasting peace in Gaza, expanding humanitarian assistance for Palestinians, and supporting post-war reconstruction under United Nations auspices.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Wednesday, Pakistan said the decision was taken in response to an invitation extended to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
According to the statement, Pakistan’s participation in the Board of Peace is part of its ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under the framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
Islamabad expressed hope that the establishment of the Board would lead to concrete steps toward a permanent ceasefire, a significant scale-up of humanitarian aid for Palestinians, and the reconstruction of Gaza following months of devastation.
The Foreign Office further stated that Pakistan expects these efforts to contribute to the realisation of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination through a credible and time-bound political process, consistent with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions.
Such a process, the statement emphasized, should result in the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
Concluding the statement, Pakistan said it looks forward to continuing to play a constructive role as part of the Board of Peace in order to help achieve these objectives and to bring an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people.
