“SMC and Guangdong Handar form joint venture to modernise Balochistan’s mining sector under CPEC”

“In a landmark development for Pakistan’s mining sector, SMC and Guangdong Handar have formed a Pak-China mining joint venture to modernise mineral extraction and processing in Balochistan under CPEC.”

Sanjrani Mining Company (SMC) and Chinese firm Guangdong Handar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint venture aimed at modernising mineral extraction and processing in Balochistan. The deal was signed in Guangzhou, China, under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The joint venture, tentatively named Pak-Handar Mining Services and Management Company, will focus on investing in resource extraction projects, modernising mineral processing facilities, and providing comprehensive mining services in Pakistan’s southwest region.

Under the agreement, Guangdong Handar will provide technical expertise, advanced technology, and management support, while SMC will leverage its local network, assets, and knowledge of the regional mining landscape to ensure efficient operations.

The signing ceremony featured Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, former Senate chairman and chairman of SMC, and Liang Fa, rotating general manager of Guangdong Handar. Both sides highlighted that the collaboration is a significant step in strengthening Pak-China industrial cooperation and advancing the CPEC vision in the mining sector.

This partnership is expected to boost Balochistan’s mining output, create employment opportunities, and attract further investment into Pakistan’s mineral-rich regions. Experts say modernisation of mining operations under this joint venture could improve efficiency, promote sustainable resource extraction, and contribute to the province’s economic development.

The MoU reflects the growing trend of China-Pakistan collaboration in strategic sectors, aligning with broader goals of industrial growth, technology transfer, and regional economic integration under CPEC.
