Security forces have killed five more terrorists during the ongoing Operation Shahban in Balochistan, taking the total number of terrorists eliminated in the operation to 76, according to security sources.
The latest action was carried out as part of the joint counterterrorism campaign involving the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC), and Balochistan Police. The operation was launched following the deadly terrorist attack on the Mangi Dam Police Station in Ziarat and continues across multiple districts of the province.
Security sources said the five terrorists were neutralized during the latest phase of Operation Shahban. They added that 114 terrorists have been killed in Operation Shahban and other intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted across Balochistan since July 5.
Operation Shahban was launched after terrorists attacked police personnel in the Kach Mangi Phase III area of Ziarat, triggering hours-long clashes that resulted in the martyrdom of 27 police personnel. Security forces have since intensified aerial and ground operations to dismantle terrorist networks operating in the province.
The ongoing campaign combines intelligence-led operations with coordinated ground offensives aimed at eliminating terrorist hideouts and preventing further attacks on civilians and security personnel.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Eliminate Terrorism
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorism during a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee on the National Action Plan in Quetta. The meeting was attended by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, senior military officials, and the provincial leadership.
Addressing the meeting, the prime minister said the country’s civil and military leadership had taken a unified decision to eliminate terrorism through coordinated national efforts.
According to the military’s media wing, at least 42 people — including four civilians, 27 police personnel, and 11 security personnel — have lost their lives in terrorist attacks and subsequent security operations in Balochistan since July 5.
Security forces continue Operation Shahban across the province, with intelligence-based operations underway to target and dismantle terrorist networks.
