Balochistan's Olive oil earns prestigious recognition at NYIOOC

Olive oil from Balochistan has earned international recognition after making a splash at the prestigious New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC). Competing against over 1,200 brands from across the globe, “Loralai Olives” secured a Silver Award, showcasing the exceptional quality of olive oil being produced in Pakistan.

It is produced in the Loralai district by local farmer Abdul Jabbar, is a testament to years of dedication and hard work. His 30-acre orchard yielded more than 9,000 liters of olive oil last year, proving that Balochistan holds immense potential for olive cultivation.

“Loralai Olives has fulfilled the dream of putting Pakistan on the map of olive-producing countries,” said Shaukat Rasool, CEO of Loralai Olives. “Winning this award alongside major producers like Spain, Italy, and the U.S. is not just an achievement for us, but for all of South Asia.”

Experts, including Dr. Khair Muhammad Kakar, the former head of Pakistan’s Oilseed Department, emphasize that Balochistan’s climate and soil make it the ideal region for olive cultivation. He pointed out that the extra virgin olive oil from Balochistan meets international standards, and the recent recognition at the NYIOOC is expected to attract further global attention.

This milestone highlights the promise and potential of olive oil production in Pakistan, elevating its status on the international stage.
