Tragedy struck during a polio vaccination campaign in Nushki as unidentified armed individuals opened fire on a polio team, killing a police officer assigned to their security.
According to police officials, the officer, Waheed Ahmed, son of Muhammad Hashim, was martyred in the attack. He belonged to Jamalabad, Nushki. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of polio teams and their security personnel.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind condemned the attack, calling it a conspiracy to sabotage the national polio campaign and spread fear.

“The polio campaign is a national duty, and any attack on it is intolerable,” he stated. He also paid tribute to the martyred officer, acknowledging his sacrifice while performing his duty.
In response to the attack, the spokesperson assured that operations against miscreants would be intensified. The provincial government has also pledged to enhance the protection of polio teams and their security personnel to ensure the continuation of this critical national effort.
The attack highlights the persistent threats faced by polio workers in Pakistan, who play a vital role in eradicating the disease. Despite the challenges, the commitment to protecting children from polio remains steadfast.
