Two police officers deployed to protect a polio vaccination team were martyred after Fitna tul Hindustan Terrorists opened fire in Killi Jamalabad, Nushki district, Balochistan, police sources said.
According to police sources, the FAH terrorist targeted the personnel assigned to provide security to the polio team during vaccination activities in the area. The two officers were identified as Muhammad Yasir and Abdul Rauf, who died as a result of the firing.
The attackers fled after the shooting and took the official weapons of the martyred police personnel with them, according to police sources. The identity and affiliation of the attackers have not yet been established.
Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the terrorist. Security personnel are conducting searches in and around Killi Jamalabad as efforts continue to locate those responsible for the attack.
The attack comes against the backdrop of repeated attacks targeting polio vaccination teams and the security personnel assigned to protect them in Balochistan.
- In February 2026, a police officer was martyred when armed assailants opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Chaman’s Roghani-3 area. The vaccinators remained safe as they were administering vaccines inside a house.
- In May 2025, a police officer providing security to a polio team was also killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Killi Muhammad Hassani area of Nushki. The Balochistan government said the officer, identified as Waheed Ahmed, was performing security duties for the vaccination campaign.
- Earlier, in October 2025, a Balochistan Constabulary officer was killed in Surab after unidentified assailants opened fire on personnel returning from polio security duty. Levies officials said one attacker was subsequently killed in retaliatory fire.
- In August 2023, two police constables guarding a vaccination team were killed in Nawan Killi, while the female vaccinators inside the house remained safe.
Quetta has also witnessed attacks on police personnel assigned to polio teams.
The pattern extends beyond Balochistan. In April 2026, attacks involving polio teams and accompanying security personnel were reported in Bannu, Hangu and Nasirabad. In Nasirabad, police official Farman Bashir Behrani was martyred while protecting a vaccination team, according to the Pakistan Polio Eradication Initiative.
The repeated targeting of security personnel accompanying vaccination teams has added another layer of risk to Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio. Security personnel are routinely deployed alongside vaccinators in areas where previous attacks have made immunisation campaigns particularly vulnerable.
April 2026 that more than 200 polio workers and security personnel had been killed in attacks since the 1990s.
