NSC affirms Pakistan's army full authority to strike India on own terms

The National Security Committee (NSC) convened today at the Prime Minister’s Office amidst escalating tensions with India and reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s full authority to respond to Indian strikes at a time and manner of its choosing.

Chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the meeting brought together civil and military leaders who strongly condemned recent Indian attacks as blatant violations of Pakistan’s sovereignty and international law.

The NSC denounced Indian strikes that targeted civilian areas—including Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad—under claims of striking “terrorist camps.” These actions resulted in tragic civilian casualties, infrastructure damage (including mosques), and the endangerment of commercial flights. India’s targeted attack on the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project was also noted as a clear violation of international conventions.

Pakistan rejected India’s allegations outright and reminded the global community of its invitation for international media to conduct a transparent investigation, which India disregarded. The committee called India’s actions reckless and politically motivated, attributing them to a diversion from New Delhi’s internal challenges.

Expressing deep sorrow, the NSC prayed for the victims of these attacks, mourning the loss of innocent men, women, and children, and wishing the injured a swift recovery. The committee also praised Pakistan’s military for its timely and effective response, emphasizing national unity in support of its defenders.

The NSC reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace with dignity but warned that any further acts of aggression would be met with full force, holding India solely responsible for the consequences of its actions. Furthermore, the committee urged the international community to take immediate notice of India’s illegal actions and hold it accountable.

Key attendees included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, National Security Advisor, federal ministers, and the chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces, along with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the DG ISI.
