Oil tanker explosion in Noshki leaves at least 40 injured

A tragic incident occurred in Noshki, Balochistan, on Monday, as an oil tanker caught fire and exploded, leaving at least 40 people injured, officials confirmed.

Noshki Deputy Commissioner Amjad Soomro reported that the fire broke out at a truck depot due to welding work near the tanker. Firefighters were attempting to extinguish the flames when the explosion took place, causing serious injuries. Among the victims were members of the fire brigade, police officers assisting on site, and individuals nearby, some of whom sustained severe burns, ranging between 70% to 80%.

Emergency teams are transferring those critically injured to Quetta via helicopter for specialized care. Meanwhile, hospitals in the area, such as Civil Hospital and Bolan Medical College, are providing urgent medical treatment.

Balochistan Government Spokesperson Shahid Rind highlighted the intensity of the blaze, which also engulfed the fire brigade vehicle present at the scene. Official investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding the explosion are underway.

Incidents involving oil tankers are unfortunately not uncommon. Flammable materials, welding near the tanks, or residual gases in empty tankers are frequent contributors to such accidents. For instance, prior incidents in Karachi and on highways have resulted in similar devastating outcomes.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as rescue and recovery efforts continue.
