Quetta under tight security for 7th Muharram procession

The mourning procession for the 7th of Muharram commenced today (Wednesday) at 2 PM from Imambargah Kalan Hazara on Prince Road, Quetta, following its traditional route and concluding at Imambargah Nasir-ul-Aza on Mekangi Road.

To ensure security, authorities have sealed roads leading to the procession route using barriers like tents and heavy vehicles. Shops and markets along the route have also been closed in coordination with local trader representatives.

Approximately 5,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed to maintain comprehensive security, supported by five Pakistan Army Quick Reaction Force (QRF) platoons, which will remain on standby. Additionally, mobile phone services in strategic parts of the city will stay suspended during the Muharram procession to prevent any potential misuse of communication networks.

Traffic diversions and road closures have left much of the city quiet, with residents advised to minimize travel and cooperate with security personnel.
