The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has seized millions of liters of illegally stored petrol and diesel during a major enforcement operation in border areas between Sindh and Balochistan.
According to officials, the petroleum products were being stored unlawfully at an oil depot. During the operation, authorities also discovered that a private company’s oil depot had been operating illegally without the required OGRA license and without a mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Defence.
OGRA’s enforcement team immediately sealed the depot and took custody of the stored petrol and diesel before handing it over to the district administration for further legal proceedings.
The authority stated that nationwide crackdowns against illegal fuel storage and unauthorized petroleum activities are continuing, with strict legal action being taken against violators.
Smuggling in Balochistan: A Serious Economic and Security Challenge
Smuggling remains a major economic and security challenge in Balochistan. The illegal transportation of Iranian fuel, narcotics including crystal meth and hashish, foreign cigarettes, tyres, and food items is causing significant losses to the national economy.
These illicit trade networks are also believed to provide financial support to terrorism and organized criminal groups operating in the region.
Authorities say goods including untaxed clothing, tyres, cigarettes, and Indian gutka are smuggled into Pakistan through the borders with Iran and Afghanistan. Customs Enforcement Quetta and Frontier Corps (FC) continue to conduct operations to curb the illegal movement of such goods.
Security Concerns Linked to Smuggling Networks
Security officials warn that smuggling mafias and criminal syndicates often act as financial backers for terrorist and criminal activities, making anti-smuggling operations critical not only for economic stability but also for national security.
Law enforcement agencies and regulatory authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations against illegal petroleum trade and cross-border smuggling to protect Pakistan’s economy and strengthen regional security.
