Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has announced a new initiative to boost Pakistan’s exports through the commercial export of donkey meat to China from farms in Gwadar.
During discussions with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Zaho Fei, Vice President of China’s Donkey Industry, plans were laid out for developing commercial donkey breeding and processing facilities in Gwadar. These facilities will include farms, slaughterhouses, and export centers within the area’s Export Processing Zone.

Minister Hussain emphasized the economic potential of this project, stating, “Exporting donkey meat to China will contribute to Pakistan’s export growth and improve trade relations with China.” The initiative is also expected to create new employment opportunities in Pakistan.
While the venture offers substantial economic benefits, strict regulations will be enforced to ensure the protection of local donkey breeds. Hussain reassured stakeholders that “permission to establish donkey farms will only be granted after fulfilling all legal requirements,” and the breeding of local donkey breeds “will not be negatively affected by this initiative.”
According to Vice President Zaho Fei, “Pakistan has a favorable environment for donkey breeding,” strengthening the viability of this project.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step in further enhancing trade relations between Pakistan and China while bolstering Pakistan’s export portfolio.
