Former Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, has tied the knot for the second time at the age of 92.
According to reports, Maulana Sherani’s Nikah ceremony took place in Islamabad in a simple gathering, where he married a woman from Gilgit-Baltistan.
Confirming the marriage himself, Maulana Sherani said it was his second marriage, adding that his first wife had passed away some time ago.
Prominent scholars and well-known personalities from religious circles have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Maulana Sherani on his marriage.
Background
Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani previously served as the Chairman of the Islamic Ideological Council and was a senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) before being expelled from the party in December 2020 over disciplinary issues. The decision was made by the committee members Agha Ayub Shah, Maulana Abdul Wasi, and Maulana Abdul Hakeem.
After his expulsion, he formed his own faction called Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sherani (JUI-Sherani).
Earlier, JUI-F’s former MNA Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi had also made headlines after marrying a 14-year-old girl from Chitral, an incident that led to a government inquiry into the matter.
Following Sherani’s expulsion, Maulana Gul Naseeb, the former JUI-F head in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, praised him as an honest and principled leader, criticizing the party’s internal politics.
