Mari Energies Limited has announced a significant natural gas discovery at the Tibri-1 exploratory well in the Kalchas South Block located in the Dera Bugti district of Balochistan, the company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Monday.
The Tibri-1 well — the first exploratory well drilled in the Kalchas South Block — was spudded on November 11, 2025, and drilled to a total depth of 7,170 feet. Initial test results from the Dunghan/Sui Main Limestone formation have indicated promising flow rates.
Encouraging Initial Flow Test Results
According to the company’s filing:

The well delivered an initial gas flow rate of 11 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) at a 64/64-inch choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 561 psig.

At a 32/64-inch choke, the Tibri-1 well flowed 6.5 MMSCFD with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,161 psig.

Further testing is underway to evaluate the well’s full production potential.
Joint Venture Partnership and Working Interests
The Kalchas South Block is being explored by a joint venture with the following working interests:

United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) – 46% (Operator)

Mari Energies Limited – 44%

Dewan Petroleum (Private) Limited (DPL) – 10%
Mari Energies highlighted that the Kalchas South area had remained dormant for a prolonged period until exploration activities resumed after the joint venture’s acquisition of DPL’s working interest in July 2023.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Energy Portfolio
In its stock exchange notice, Mari Energies emphasized that the discovery at Tibri-1 underscores the joint venture’s commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon resources and bolstering the national energy supply base.
The company further noted that exploration operations in the area had previously been suspended due to security challenges, and that the renewed activity has delivered this milestone discovery as part of broader efforts to expand indigenous gas production.
