Electricity supply has been successfully restored to the Makran region, covering Gwadar, Turbat, and Panjgur, following a 24-hour blackout. The outage occurred when power from Iran, delivered via two 132kV transmission lines, was disrupted.
Makran depends on electricity imports from Iran under long-term agreements since its scattered population and remoteness make integrating it into Pakistan’s national grid commercially challenging.
According to a spokesperson from the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco), key grid stations impacted by the blackout included Turbat, Panjgur, Pasni, Gwadar, the New Gwadar International Airport, and others. The breakdown left the entire region in darkness.
Qesco confirmed they promptly engaged Iranian authorities, who worked to resolve the technical issue on their end. The fault was fixed, and power was restored by Sunday, ensuring normal operations resumed across the region.
