The Agriculture Department of Balochistan has partnered with an Italian institute to enhance agriculture and rural development in the province.
Under a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), a phytosanitary lab will be set up at the Agriculture Research Institute on Sariab Road, Quetta. This collaboration is supported by the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in Italy.

The agreement, signed in the office of Special Secretary of Agriculture Anees Tariq Gurgaij, also includes a provision for Italian experts to train Balochistan’s agriculture scientists in operating the lab.
The new laboratory aims to help olive growers detect and control pathogens and pests more effectively. This initiative is expected to increase olive oil production and improve the incomes of local farmers, fostering economic growth in the region.
