Police personnel martyred in a terrorist attack on a police vehicle in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At least six police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were martyred on Tuesday when terrorists attacked a police vehicle in Kohat,

According to senior police officials, the police van was transporting two under-custody individuals for a court appearance when it came under intense gunfire near Shakardara Road in the limits of Lachi police station. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of the DSP, one inspector, and four constables. One of the detainees being transported was also killed in the assault.

Earlier, state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported that armed assailants opened heavy fire targeting the DSP near Shakardara Road. Following the incident, additional police contingents were rushed to the area, which was subsequently cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to track down the attackers. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.

KP Governor Condemns Attack

Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, strongly condemned the terrorist attack and paid tribute to the martyred police officers for sacrificing their lives in the line of duty. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks, as well as the speedy recovery of the injured.

The governor noted that the law and order situation in southern districts of KP has deteriorated significantly, adding that police and security forces remain on the front lines of the war against terrorism and continue to make immense sacrifices for peace.

Just a day earlier, three personnel of the Federal Constabulary were martyred in a terrorist attack in Karak. According to police, Rescue 1122 teams responding to the incident were also ambushed near Ghole Banda Dam, leaving three rescue officials injured and destroying their ambulances.

Last week, an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a security checkpost in Bajaur, martyred 11 security personnel. The military’s media wing said an innocent young girl was also martyred in the attack, while seven others — including women and children — sustained injuries.

The latest attack in Kohat adds to growing concerns over the security landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police and security forces continue to face relentless militant violence while performing their duties.
