Pakistan will strike if India blocks Indus River, warns Khawaja Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a stern warning against plans by India to build a structure on the Indus River, deeming any such act a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Speaking with the private news channel,” he stated that any attempt to divert the river or restrict its flow would be treated as an act of aggression by Pakistan. “Aggression is not just about firing bullets; blocking or diverting water is a weapon that can cause hunger and thirst,” he emphasized.

Rising tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi emerged following the pahalgam attack. India has blamed Pakistan for the incident without presenting evidence, and both sides have since launched a series of retaliatory measures, including the suspension of the IWT by India and expulsions of diplomatic personnel by Pakistan.

Minister Asif condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s actions, said that he is exploiting the situation for political gain in light of upcoming elections. He noted that global pressure on India has intensified as it struggles to secure international support for its claims. “India is inciting, but we will respond only when necessary. For now, we are pursuing this diplomatically through forums like the IWT,” he added, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to resolving the issue responsibly.
