A Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) leader was among the three individuals killed in a tragic landmine explosion in Kalat district, Balochistan, on Thursday. The incident occurred when their private vehicle hit a landmine in the Chori Bur Kaputo area, according to provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind.

The Balochistan government has strongly condemned this “terrorist incident” and assured the public of ongoing investigations. Rind emphasized that the administration is committed to maintaining law and order in the region.

This tragic event comes against the backdrop of escalating militant activity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On April 15, a deadly blast targeted a vehicle of the Balochistan Constabulary in Mastung district, leaving three policemen dead and 16 others injured.

A recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies highlights a significant spike in militant violence in March, with over 100 attacks occurring in a single month for the first time since 2014. Pakistan now ranks second in the Global Terrorism Index for 2025, with a 45% rise in deaths from terrorist attacks compared to the previous year, totaling 1,081 casualties.
