A local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Mufti Shahmeer, was tragically killed in a targeted attack in Turbat’s Malikabad area, Kech.

The incident occurred as Mufti Shahmeer was leaving the mosque after offering Tarawih prayers. Unidentified armed men on motorcycles ambushed him, opening fire. He suffered critical gunshot wounds and died in the hospital.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack; meanwhile, the perpetrators managed to escape the scene.

This incident adds to a growing wave of targeted killings in Balochistan. Earlier this month, unidentified assailants murdered two JUI-F leaders in Khuzdar district, escalating violence in the region. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this latest attack.

Last year, assailants fatally shot Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Mir Aslam Khan Umrani on the National Highway in Naseerabad.

According to police reports, the attack occurred while Umrani was traveling to Dera Murad Jamali. Unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle, killing him instantly. Authorities believe that the incident, in fact, stemmed from what appears to be an ongoing water dispute.

The attackers fled the scene; meanwhile, an investigation is currently underway in order to bring those responsible to justice.
