A Balochistan Police operation in the Sohrab district successfully recovered two transporters who had been abducted from Karachi’s Garden area, officials confirmed on Wednesday. The joint intelligence-based action marks a major breakthrough in inter-provincial coordination against organized crime.
According to police, the Balochistan Police operation was carried out in collaboration with the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA Police), and the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). The abductees, identified as Amir and Shahzeb, were rescued after a technical intelligence-led raid in Sohrab.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asif Raza Baloch said the victims were kidnapped on September 23 near the Karachi Zoo in the Garden area, along with their vehicle. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 3 billion for their release.
Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the culprits behind the abduction.
In a separate development, police arrested Mairaj, the gunman of Liaquat Mehsood, president of the All Dumper Truck Owners Association, for allegedly opening fire on protestors in Karachi’s Ramswami area.
According to officials, the incident occurred after a garbage dumper ran over a motorcyclist, killing him and injuring his wife. Enraged residents torched the dumper and staged a protest.
Reports said that Liaquat Mehsood arrived with 20 to 25 armed men and opened fire on the demonstrators before fleeing towards the Garden area.
Police registered two FIRs at the Garden Police Station—one against the dumper driver, Niaz, for negligent driving, and another against Mehsood and his associates under charges of culpable homicide, attempted murder, and negligence.
Meanwhile, another fatal accident involving a dumper took place near Hospital Chowrangi, Landhi, where a speeding truck ran over two motorcyclists. One of them, 20-year-old Kashan, was killed, while 19-year-old Javed was injured.
The recent spike in dumper-related accidents has triggered public outrage in Karachi, with citizens demanding stricter enforcement of traffic safety laws and action against reckless drivers.
