The Jaffar Express once again came under attack on Sunday when an explosive device detonated on the railway track in Balochistan’s Nasirabad district, officials confirmed. The latest Jaffar Express bomb attack occurred in the Shaheed Abdul Aziz Bullo area, where banned outfit terrorists had planted and remotely detonated the device moments after the train passed.
According to railway and police officials, the Peshawar-bound train, travelling from Quetta, crossed the area safely and no casualties were reported. Security forces reached the site immediately, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation to track the perpetrators.
A portion of the railway track was damaged in the blast, causing a temporary suspension of traffic between Quetta and the rest of the country. The Jaffar Express resumed its journey toward Peshawar after reaching Jacobabad, Sindh. The train had returned to service earlier in the day following a four-day suspension due to security concerns.
A Train Repeatedly Targeted in Recent Months
The Jaffar Express has been the target of multiple attacks in Balochistan and Sindh in recent weeks:
-
29 October: A rocket attack targeted the train near the Notal area of Nasirabad. Fortunately, no passengers were harmed.
-
7 October: A powerful explosion on a railway track near Shikarpur derailed five carriages and injured six passengers. The blast occurred near Sultan Kot Railway Station.
-
Earlier this year: Terrorists attacked the train near Sibi, killing 26 passengers and taking several others hostage. Security forces later conducted a successful rescue operation.
The repeated targeting of the Jaffar Express has raised serious concerns about railway security in Balochistan and adjoining regions. Authorities say search operations and enhanced patrols will continue along railway routes to prevent further incidents.
Despite continued attacks from IEDs, Rocket firing, the train continues to serve Passengers.
